At the Anchor Christian Church, we believe that being a part of our community is our responsibility as a church. On March 18th, we attended the Addison Trail High School Heroin Awareness Event. Addison Trail is a neighboring high school of Fenton here in Bensenville, IL.
The night started out with tons of facts and history on Heroin and what the original intentions were for the drug. I guess like us humans, we have also fallen away from Gods original intentions…. It was hard to hear the stories and learn about the families whose lives have been forever affected from this drug. The statistic that stood out the most was that at its peak in 2013, Heroin took a life a week from young people here in DuPage County. Awareness events like these are vital to our community on giving understanding to the facts about Heroin and the dangers that surround this highly addictive substance. We applaud the efforts of the LTM Foundation, they were instrumental in making this event happen. If you or your family are struggling with this family disease and need resources, or would like to attend future events in the surrounding communities please visit www.ltmfoundation.org
Our motto at the Anchor Christian Church is we want you to "come as you are...but not stay where you're at." We know that everyone is at a different place in life and we want to invite you to come as you are and check out real people, not perfect people, who are striving to Love God and Love People. We gather together every Sunday at 10am to learn about who God is. We also have Anchor Teens, a youth group for teenagers in grades 6-12. Come join us at The Anchor Christian Church in Bensenville, IL.
Have you, or someone you know, been affected by addictions? We would love to hear you story and pray for all involved. Do you know of other great resources, programs, events, organizations, etc.? Please share with us in the comments below!
